The YMCA of Upper Palmetto is seeking an Aquatics Director for its Gregory Family YMCA located in the upstate of South Carolina.
The YMCA of Upper Palmetto is seeking an Aquatics Director for its Gregory Family YMCA located in Lancaster, South Carolina. The Gregory Family YMCA is a shared partnership facility with the University of South Carolina Lancster (USCL). Located on the USCL Campus, the Gregory Family Y is a full facility branch including a gymnasium, indoor pool, fitness areas, racquetball courts, child watch, locker rooms, etc.
Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.
Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Purchases equipment, parts and supplies approved by the Branch Manager.
Collaborate with the Facilities Director to establish systems for regularly scheduled pool inspections to ensure proper and efficient working order at all times.
Oversee swim classes, water fitness classes, which promote retention of existing members and engagement of new members. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information to members and community.
Collaborate with the Executive Director to plan and manage the annual Aquatics Department budget. Control payroll and department purchasing costs within the budget and financial guidelines to meet fiscal objectives.
Promote the YMCA in special events among the members and community.
Ensure proper implementation of aquatic schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections. Collaborate with department leaders to maximize enrollments in program registration, pool usage and work effectively with all departments to achieve desired results.
Three to five years experience in aquatics or customer service related field preferred;
Three to five years experience in staff supervision and leadership preferred.
YMCA aquatics or operations experience preferred.
General clerical and computer skills.
Child Abuse Prevention; Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours, weekends and holidays.
May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard and other equipment.
May be required to work outdoors for extended periods of time. May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures and to wet and/or humid conditions in swimming pool areas.
Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person.
Must possess the physical ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a professional water rescue.
Must be able to work with hazardous chemicals (i.e. pool chemicals, cleaning solutions, disinfectants, etc.).
