This role requires 8-hour shifts from 0615 to 1445, Monday through Friday, with no weekends, holidays, or call duty.

Job Description

The Operating Room Nurse is responsible for assessing and addressing the individual physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients while acting as a patient advocate. The nurse will collaborate with surgical teams to ensure a safe and efficient environment of care.

Responsibilities

• Assess and respond to patients' needs through personal observation and interaction.
• Set up the operating room with the appropriate sterile supplies and equipment.
• Work as a team member with the scrub nurse, anesthesia personnel, and surgeon.
• Identify patients and operative sites, and safely transport patients.
• Communicate information accurately and chart it in a timely manner.
• Observe and maintain sterile fields during procedures.
• Chart required information on patient records and verify consent H&P for surgical procedures.
• Oversee sponge, needle, and instrument counts, reporting results to the surgeon.
• Ensure appropriate medications are available, labeled, and used correctly on the sterile field.
• Handle specimens correctly and ensure proper labeling and recording.
• Utilize personal protective equipment when handling waste and ensure compliance among the team.
• Relieve personnel for breaks and lunches effectively while maintaining patient flow according to the OR schedule.
• Review surgeon's preference cards to ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available.
• Gain knowledge and familiarize oneself with all equipment procedures, supplies, and drugs.
• Utilize supplies efficiently to control costs without compromising patient care.
• Assist with housekeeping duties as necessary between cases.
• Perform additional duties as required in accordance with policies.
