Job Description
Join Uncommon Schools as a High School Science Teacher and inspire students through inquiry-based learning and robust scientific discourse. Collaborate with a dedicated team to equip students with the skills necessary for success in STEM fields while impacting the lives of students in economically disadvantaged communities.
Key Responsibilities
Teach a curriculum that prepares students for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate level coursework in various sciences
Develop students’ practices skills of questioning, modeling, constructing explanations, data analysis, argumentation, and conducting interactive labs
Create an environment where students feel confident engaging in scientific discourse
Facilitate student-led inquiry and engage students in lab and project-based performance tasks
Meet weekly with principal and/or instructional coach to analyze trends in student work samples and assessments
Build positive relationships with students and partner with families to support their child's learning needs
Required Qualifications
A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academic development
An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students
A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives
A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred)
Academic expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or other related fields of study
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
