Job Title: – Traffic Control Location: Chattanooga TN 37416 Pay Rate: $17.33/hr. on W2 Shift Schedule (Evening – I Shift) Wed: 4:30 P.M. – Midnight Thu: 2:00 P.M. – Midnight Fri: 2:00 P.M. – Midnight Sat: 2:00 P.M. – Midnight Position Summary: This is an advanced-level position responsible for ensuring safe and efficient traffic movement and for monitoring roadways. Duties include detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic incidents, congestion, and travel time imbalances. Responsibilities: Advanced level operator position performing functions with minimal supervision and to established procedures. Perform all duties and may defer the most complex issues to a supervisor. Operate various computer-based traffic management systems to manage traffic and incidents on roadways and improve traffic conditions. Monitor roadways via surveillance cameras and detection systems. Monitor all traffic devices and computer equipment associated with the system. Maintain advanced knowledge on the operation of all traffic equipment, computers, and software associated with the traffic systems. Utilize traffic equipment for incident management and the improvement of travel time, safety, and quality of life of the traveling motorists and toll customers. Continually check the accuracy and validity of the messages displayed on all DMS and 511. Be aware of all 511 messages broadcasted on a particular system. Enter incident information into computer systems using traffic software. Become familiar with the roadways and understand the purpose and location of each traffic device (i.e., detector stations, CCTV, and 511). Alert operator staff to new and existing memos. Use SOG to detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents. Confer with partners (highway patrol, Service Patrols, Local Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, etc.) as well as adjacent Traffic Management Centers or other DOT Regions to coordinate resources for incidents that may affect regional travel. Dispatch Service Patrols and assist Service Patrols with other tasks, such as phone calls, etc. Perform other duties as assigned. Preferred Experience: Dispatch or Call Center experience a plus
