Job Description

The Ambulatory Service Representative plays a crucial role in managing complex administrative tasks for patients in a pediatric rheumatology setting. This position involves scheduling appointments, handling urgent care calls, and ensuring seamless communication between patients and providers, all while maintaining a professional and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receives and directs phone calls from patients and physician offices
  • Schedules patients for treatment by multiple providers and treatment areas
  • Prioritizes appointments for optimum patient care
  • Handles urgent patient care calls and alerts providers as necessary
  • Greets patients for scheduled and/or urgent care appointments
  • Confirms and verifies patient demographic and insurance information
  • Collects co-payments from patients upon arrival
  • Obtains signatures of consent for treatment authorization
  • Collaborates with insurers for prior authorizations
  • Maintains accurate and timely records and logs
  • Performs various administrative and clerical duties
  • Complies with established departmental policies and health regulations

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficient in software and computer systems
  • Knowledgeable of business office terminology / procedures
  • Ability to multi-task and work under stressful situations
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year of customer service experience
  • Experience with medical office terminology
