Job Description

As an Electrical Controls Engineer, you will troubleshoot issues with control systems and coordinate with team members to identify and implement solutions. You will develop and install machine programs using automation PLC software, draw electrical schematics using CAD to demonstrate process functionality, and create aesthetic HMI screens for machinery that provide sufficient feedback for troubleshooting. You will formulate and recommend engineering policies and technical work in line with project objectives, ensuring sound technical engineering concepts are applied. Your role will involve planning and coordinating engineering projects to be completed on schedule and within cost objectives, while advising personnel on the latest technical and engineering developments. You will collaborate with the Production, Research, and Quality Control departments to prepare production and process designs, establish uniform specifications for materials and equipment, and provide engineering services and technical support to other departments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot issues with control systems.
  • Coordinate with others to determine problems and implement solutions.
  • Develop and install machine programs using automation PLC software.
  • Draw electrical schematics (CAD) to demonstrate process functionality.
  • Generate aesthetic HMI screens for machinery with adequate feedback for troubleshooting.
  • Formulate and recommend engineering policies and technical work in accordance with project objectives.
  • Ensure sound technical engineering concepts are applied.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering projects to be completed on schedule within cost objectives.
  • Advise personnel on the latest technical and engineering developments.
  • Cooperate with Production, Research, and Quality Control departments for production and process design.
  • Establish uniform specifications for materials and equipment.
  • Provide engineering services and technical support to other departments.
  • Investigate production problems and research new technologies to improve process control, lower costs, and increase throughput.
  • Implement non-capital improvements to improve process control and reduce costs.
  • Prepare and coordinate short and long-term engineering plans and programs for design, construction, or alteration activities.
  • Travel to job sites to coordinate start-up, performance, and testing.

Essential Skills

  • PLC programming
  • Controls engineering
  • Control panel design
  • Electrical schematic creation
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley systems
  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or extensive controls experience
  • Minimum of 5 years direct experience

Work Environment

The role requires availability for 20-30% travel, typically to Baltimore or as required for major projects. The work environment involves using advanced technologies and equipment in a collaborative setting with departments like Production, Research, and Quality Control.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
