Job Summary: An Interventional Radiology Technologist assists in minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat various medical conditions. The technologist is responsible for preparing and maintaining equipment, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and collaborating with the healthcare team to deliver high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Procedure Preparation:
- Prepare and set up interventional radiology (IR) suites, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and sterile.
- Assist in the preparation of patients for procedures, including explaining procedures, verifying patient identity, and obtaining consent.
2. Technical Assistance:
- Operate and maintain imaging equipment such as fluoroscopes, ultrasound machines, and CT scanners.
- Assist the radiologist in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including angiograms, biopsies, and catheter placements.
3. Patient Care:
- Monitor and document patient vital signs during procedures.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort before, during, and after procedures.
- Provide post-procedural care instructions to patients and their families.
4. Image Quality and Safety:
- Capture and assess high-quality images for diagnostic purposes.
- Adhere to radiation safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and self from excessive radiation exposure.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including procedure notes and image documentation.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families to provide education and support.
6. Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with advancements in interventional radiology technology and procedures.
- Participate in continuing education and training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications: - Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
- Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography and Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI) preferred and BLS
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in interventional radiology or a related field preferred.
- Skills:Proficiency in operating imaging equipment, strong patient care skills, excellent communication abilities, and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient positioning.
- Capability to lift and move patients and equipment as necessary.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate imaging equipment.
Work Environment:
- Hospital setting with exposure to radiation and infectious diseases.
- Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to strict safety protocols.
