Job Description

Join Animal Care Centers of NYC as a Licensed Veterinary Technician where you'll provide critical medical and surgical care for animals in need. With a focus on teamwork and community impact, you'll play a vital role in improving the lives of thousands of animals each year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer drugs and vaccines by all routes as directed by the staff veterinarian
  • Perform LVT examinations in SOAP format as needed
  • Interpret clinical information and act swiftly
  • Handle, restrain and triage all animals entering shelter
  • Perform peripheral blood sampling and IV catheter placement
  • Assist with all aspects of surgery (pre, intra, and postoperatively)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacology when preparing and administering drugs
  • Obtain diagnostics as ordered by veterinarians
  • Collect appropriate samples and perform basic laboratory tests
  • Assist in performance of necropsy as needed
  • Document medical exam findings and treatments in Shelter Buddy medical records
  • Facilitate transfer of animals from intake or medical areas
  • Maintain medical equipment and clean medical areas

Required Qualifications

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology or foreign equivalent recognized by NYS
  • Licensure in NYS to practice veterinary technology
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Eligibility for and willingness to apply for euthanasia technician certification
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Dependable, reliable, and efficient
