Seeking a HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE, competent and experienced auto restoration Production Manager and lead technician.
If you have the desire to manage and one day own a well organized, successful and lucrative restoration shop, this position is for you.
I (owner) am very close to retirement and am looking for the right person to take over full management in 1-2 years and, eventually (3-5 years), own and continue operation of the shop I have built over the past 33 years. We are universally considered the most experienced, top quality and most specialized shop in the world in the make and model of SUV that we produce. The business has a stellar 3 decade reputation for building the finest, most bespoke, most amenity rich resto-mods in the world.
The pay rate is high (double the Las Vegas average) because this position requires a restoration tech that is significantly more productive than average. If you are faster, more efficient, more competent and more skilled than your peers at past jobs, this position is ideal for you. If not, please don't apply.
I am looking for someone with at least 10, but preferably 15 years of experience in a combination of automotive mechanical systems (powertrain, electrical, AC, diagnostic/repair, etc) as well as significant experience in automotive body and paintwork. Please don't waste either of our time if you are not highly knowledgeable and competent in these areas.
Auto upholstery, tint and auto-wrap installation, and welding/fabrication experience at any level are a plus that will go into my hiring decision.
You must understand basic automotive electrical systems, be competent in reading electrical diagrams and be able to build electrical circuits and harnesses from scratch following our schematics.
Your PRIMARY daily duties will consist of building and assembling very high-end resto-mod SUVs of a specific make and model. We use only brand new parts and components of the highest quality. We do not perform any repair and maintenance work. When building our concours-quality restorations, you must be able to do your work in a very clean fashion that results in a finished product that meets the highest aesthetic standards. Understanding the importance of producing a vehicle that looks as good as it runs is required.
Your SECONDARY but equally important responsibility will be to dictate and manage workflow of various simultaneous restorations (3-4 simultaneously), including providing guidance, direction and daily work assignments for our other technicians.
You will receive a highly lucrative COMPLETION BONUS for every restoration that is completed and ready to ship. You can choose to keep the entire bonus yourself, our share a portion with one or more of our other techs that are doing the best and most work to help you to speed production and complete cars on schedule. This bonus split (if any) will be solely at your discretion.
After a month or so, you will be given a company credit card with which you can directly pay local vendors and suppliers and order parts and components from our 5 main parts accounts. Eventually, you will be given the discretion and power to hire and fire other team members once you have evaluated their skills, competence and productivity.
You must have the desire and ability to keep the shop clean and organized. Full, frame-off restoration work (where everything is replaced) requires 1000s of parts, fasteners and components, so the more organizational skill you have, the better.
All systems, parts and build specs have already been created and refined over time. So you don't have to "re-invent the wheel". All parts and components are already stocked and available, so you don't need to search for 1000s of parts....you will just need to reorder inventory as it is depleted. All of the hard work of design, engineering and part selection have already been done, although you are welcome and encouraged to improve and innovate in order to continually make our vehicles better.
You will not have to deal with customers, do any sales work or do any office/accounting/payroll/tax or other work, at least for the first 2-3 years. If I believe you are competent enough to take over full management and ownership of the shop, I will eventually train you in these areas and continue to act as an advisor and mentor to you for many years. We do not have walk-ins at our shop and you will be able to work undisturbed with no interruptions form clients.
I provide all tools and supplies that are required to build and work on our vehicles. So you do not need to own your won tools or buy any tools, unless you so choose.
One of the main characteristics required for this job is self discipline. You need to have the discipline to come to work every day and work a minimum of a 40 hour workweek, show up on time so that you can be there when our other employees arrive, and motivate yourself to continue working at a fast, productive and high-pace without direct supervision.
You will not be micro-managed and will need to be able to operate the shop effectively with minimal oversight.
The final trait required for this position is conscientiousness. This means you have to deeply and sincerely care about the quality of the work you and our other techs produce and care about providing our clients with the very best vehicles on the market. You have to understand that sloppiness, laziness and cutting corners when building cars can injure and kill people, and must do everything to ensure that every car that leaves the shop is safe, roadworthy and that all of its systems function correctly. You need to care about the business, its reputation and its clients. In short, you have to give a sh*t and have a real desire to build the best resto-mods in the world.
