Job Description

As the Lead Veterinarian for the ASPCA’s Community Medicine team, you will lead and support a dedicated group of veterinarians, ensuring the highest quality of care for underserved communities. Your role combines leadership with hands-on veterinary practice, allowing you to make a significant impact on animal welfare while fostering a collaborative work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and monitor medicine and surgery provided at the ASPCA’s CVC
  • Train veterinarians in HQHVSN techniques and other medical protocols
  • Support a positive work culture of respect, belonging, and teamwork
  • Perform pre-surgery physical examinations and surgical procedures
  • Provide compassionate, quality preventive and basic care to patients
  • Schedule CM staff veterinarians and per diems for optimal coverage
  • Participate in monthly CM Veterinary Medicine Rounds and Morbidity and Mortality Meetings

Required Qualifications

  • Current California State Veterinary License
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary college
  • Minimum one year of experience in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter
  • Minimum three years veterinary experience in small animal medicine and surgery
  • Demonstrate true leadership abilities in challenging situations
  • Ability to work in high-volume, fast-paced clinic environment
  • Excellent work attendance record
  • Fear Free® Shelter certification required within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous people management experience strongly preferred
