Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) to join our team. The RNFA provides advanced surgical assistance, ensures safe and efficient patient care, and serves as a role model in clinical excellence, professionalism, and collaboration. This position requires strong surgical skills, sound clinical judgment, and a commitment to delivering patient-centered care in accordance with hospital policies, Massachusetts state regulations, and national nursing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer nursing care in compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and ANA standards of practice.
Serve as a role model by adhering to established standards, protocols, and regulatory guidelines (DPH, Joint Commission, AORN, OSHA, etc.).
Collaborate with the surgical team and promote hospital CREATE values in all interactions.
Maintain a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner with patients, families, and staff.
Assist co-workers to ensure efficient patient flow within Perioperative Services.
Act as an advocate for patients, protecting their autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights.
Ensure accurate and legally compliant documentation of patient care.
Demonstrate sound decision-making and prioritization in emergency situations.
Participate in unit-level quality improvement and assurance initiatives.
Review operative schedules in advance and communicate RNFA scheduling needs to the Clinical Coordinator.
Safely and proficiently use surgical instruments, apply tissue handling and dissection techniques, and assist with retraction.
Demonstrate proficiency in knot-tying, suturing, and hemostasis techniques while supporting optimal surgical outcomes.
Qualifications:
Current Massachusetts RN license
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
CNOR certification
Completion of an accredited RNFA program with supervised clinical training
Minimum 2–3 years of operating room nursing experience
Proven competency in RNFA skills, including suturing, hemostasis, and retraction assistance
