Description

The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agency that provides servicesand programs to enhance the self-sufficiency of families; improve safety and permanency for children andvulnerable adults; and engage families and community partners in a collaborative decision-making process.

DCBS seeks to fill a Part-Time (works less than 100 hours per month) Social Service Aide I position. Withprofessionalism and integrity, our agency offers services to families to ensure safe, stable homes for thechildren of the Commonwealth. A Social Service Aide provides professional assistant to social service workersin meeting the needs of our vulnerable families. This includes transporting committed youth to familyvisitations, placements, or health appointments. The employee supervises visitations and records interactionsbetween the foster children and their birth parents. The Social Service Aide is expected to perform at thehighest quality to ensure services to the vulnerable citizens. This is a demanding position that requiresmaturity, self-discipline and ability to work overtime.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Transport committed children to and from family visitations, placement locations, and medical appointments.This may include out of state travel.Supervise visits between children and birth parents and other family members.Identify and report potential crisis situations to caseworkers and supervisors.Retrieve and deliver documents such as court reports, medical records, and forms signed by the birthparents.Assist caseworkers with the entry of electronic case data.Assist other offices within the region as needed.The ideal candidate will have:

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Must have fifty-four (54) semester hours from a college or university.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of experience in providing support services and/or transport services to individuals or families or working with the public.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience working with the public will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials

Working Conditions

Visits clients and/or families at their residence. Work may involve extensive contact with youth who have been abused, have behavior disorders and/or are status offenders. May run risks of hazards associated with frequent use of automobile.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
