Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient medical records
  • Identify opportunities for accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation
  • Collaborate with inpatient care providers to ensure compliant documentation
  • Reflect the true Severity of Illness (SOI) and Risk of Mortality (ROM)

Required Qualifications

  • RN, BSN, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CIC, CCDS, or CDIP
  • 1-year related experience in acute care inpatient nursing or inpatient coding or HIM
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong computer skills including typing ability
  • Ability to plan and organize workflow
  • Ability to work independently and in a stressful environment
  • Detail oriented

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years nursing, inpatient coding, or other HIM role in acute hospital setting
  • Knowledge of diagnosis-related groups (DRG) and hospital quality performance initiatives
  • Utilization review/case management experience
  • CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) or CDIP (Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner) certification
