Radiology Department – Radiation Oncology

General Information

• All paperwork due: Wednesday at NOON MST , the week before start
• Permanent address requirement: Must be at least 25 miles from the facility
• Department Type: Radiation Oncology
• Facility Type: Small, close-knit; high patient satisfaction; located near hiking and outdoor recreation

Certifications & Licensure

• Required:
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Degree in Radiation Oncology / Radiation Therapy
  • Wyoming State License
  • National ARRT Certification

Equipment & Technology

• Linear Accelerators:
  • 2 total – VitalBeam and TrueBeam
• Charting/EMR System: Mosaiq
• Equipment Vendors: Varian (VitalBeam, TrueBeam)
• PACS: Integrated with Mosaiq

Department Operations

• Average Treatments per Day: 25–30
• Common Treatment Sites:
  • Breast
  • Lung
  • Prostate
  • Head & Neck
  • Esophageal
  • Stereotactic (Brain, Body – SBRT, SRS)
• No Pediatrics
• IVs: Started by nursing staff (not techs)
• Float/Coverage: None required

Experience Requirements

• Must have experience with TrueBeam and VitalBeam machines
• Mosaiq experience highly recommended
• Simulation duties: Not performed by travelers

Staffing & Leadership

• Supervisor/Lead: Department Manager
• Radiation Oncologist: On-site, in-house daily
• Registered Radiology Assistants (RRA): Not utilized

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift: Monday–Friday, 0700–1530 (ready to treat by 0700)
• Self-scheduling / Block scheduling: Standard M–F schedule
• Weekends: None
• Holidays: None
• Call/Standby: None

Dress Code

• Scrub Color: Any color allowed
• Preferred by staff: Black scrubs with white shirts
• Scrubs Provided: No

Orientation

• Length: 1 week
• Focus: Imaging review, physician requirements, department workflow
