HIGHLIGHTS:
- At least two-three years of work as an operating room nurse required
- Current MA RN or Compact RN license required
- BLS required
- CNOR preferred
- Local candidates not accepted
- Cannot have worked perm/travel/PRN for any Beth Israel facility within the past 6 months
- Successful completion of additional education preparation specific to the role of RNFA including a supervised clinical component required
- Must have demonstrated clinical competency in the appropriate nursing practice as a RN Firsts Assistant
- Must demonstrate clinical competency in first assisting the surgeon (ie. hemostasis techniques, suturing, retracting etc.)
- Flu vaccine required (declinations not accepted)

- Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Administers nursing care within the scope of hospital policies and procedures, Massachusetts state regulations and standards of practice issued by the American Nurses Association
- Serves as role model practitioner in compliance with established practice standards, policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, statutes and regulations as it relates to service specialty
- Collaborates and works in a team setting and shares the hospital CREATE values
- Consistently maintains a courteous, helpful, and professional manner with all interactions with all patients, their families and staff members
- Assists co-workers with tasks to help meet the needs of the Perioperative Services to ensure efficiency and patient flow
- Acts as an advocate for patients and their families
- Delivers care in a manner that preserves/protects patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights
- Understands the legal implications of charting and documentation of patient care
- In emergency/crisis situations, demonstrates effective decision making and prioritizing patient needs to initiate appropriate responses
- Participates in the quality improvement/quality assurance process at the unit level
- Checks the operative schedule in advance to preclude any conflicts of RNFA scheduling needs and communicates to Clinical Coordinator
- Uses surgical instruments safely and correctly
- Applies safe tissue handling, dissection, or cutting techniques based on assessment of tissue location, type, and patient's health status
- Considers anatomical and physiological implications when selecting, placing, and moving retractors to provide surgical site exposure to reduce injury
- Demonstrates proficiency in knot-tying techniques and chooses suture material and tech
