Department: Manufacturing & Distribution - General Labor

Location: North Kingstown, RI

Description

Develop programs from engineered drawings, set up and waterjet, plasma, and laser cutting machines. Use precision measuring instruments to inspect parts, make necessary adjustments to control part processes and hold the highest quality standards. Responsible for daily inspection records, labor reporting, and scheduled machine maintenance.

How You Will Help

- Lead CNC laser programming and process optimization initiatives using Mastercam, SolidWorks, and other CAD/CAM tools.

- Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for laser cutting systems and related CNC equipment (including fiber optic lasers and turret presses).

- Develop and maintain all technical documentation such as SOPs, work instructions, job travelers, and inspection reports to support efficient and repeatable manufacturing operations.

- Support quality assurance by identifying root causes for rejects and recommending corrective actions.

- Lead and document Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) meetings prior to releasing designs to production.

- Create and maintain standard work instructions, lean manufacturing documentation, and accurate time standards.

- Manage capital equipment projects (up to $1M), ensuring compliance with quality and performance requirements.

- Implement lean manufacturing principles, 5S practices, and visual factory tools to improve productivity, reduce waste, and streamline flow.

- Design and implement tooling, fixturing, and mistake-proofing strategies to enhance accuracy and repeatability of parts.

- Oversee the setup and programming of CNC laser cutting machines, routers, mills, and lathes for optimal performance and reduced cycle times.

- Analyze and refine workflows to reduce rework, improve on-time delivery, and increase operator efficiency.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, maintenance, and supply chain to solve manufacturing challenges.

- Participate in and lead Kaizen events, process improvement workshops, and cost reduction initiatives.

- Act as technical liaison for capital equipment upgrades, new technology onboarding, and equipment layout planning.

- Mentor CNC operators and junior engineers in programming best practices, safety procedures, and process discipline.

- Train and mentor shop floor personnel on process best practices and product-specific techniques.

- Program and design fixturing for both machining accuracy and inspection purposes.

- Participate in continuous improvement activities and support day-to-day troubleshooting in operations.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

What You Will Have

- Minimum 10 years of CNC programming experience with lasers, routers, mills, and lathes in a job shop or custom fabrication environment.

- Demonstrated experience implementing lean manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen techniques.

- Expert proficiency with Mastercam, SolidWorks, and CAD/CAM systems; experience writing post processors is a plus.

- Strong knowledge of parametric programming, macro variable use, and high-speed machining strategies.

- Proven track record of reducing tooling costs, improving setup times, and driving machine efficiency.

- Hands-on experience in fixture design, tooling implementation, and dry machining strategies.

- Familiarity with ERP systems and production tracking (e.g., M1, job travelers, cycle time management).

- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and project management skills.

- Strong interpersonal communication skills with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

- High mechanical aptitude and comfort working on the shop floor in fast-paced manufacturing settings.
