As an RN in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care, from initial introduction to discharge. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare education as needed. Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including furthering education and online/in-person courses to enhance your skills.
A caregiver in this position works 7:00 a.m. -- 3:00 p.m. OR 3:00 p.m. -- 11:00 p.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
· Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
· Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
· Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
· Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
· Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
· Document in patients’ medical records.
· Delegate responsibilities to staff based on patient needs and staff competencies.
· Educate patients and families on medications, treatments and care plans.
· Analyze data for root cause analysis utilizing standard PI tools.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
· Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing
· Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
· Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
· Minimum one year current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting required for acute care settings OR licensed military RN experience
· New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
· Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
