SALARY RANGE: 132,516.80 - 205,400.00YEARLY
General Summary:
The hospital-based Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) works as a member of the care team with the OB/GYN physicians to provide specialty healthcare for women in the hospital setting. The clinical responsibilities include evaluation and management of obstetrical and common pregnancy associated conditions. The care is focused on the intrapartum and immediate postpartum phases of care but can include other antepartum complications or conditions as needed. Midwife works in a team-based, patient-centered care environment, in accordance with established protocols, practices and standardized guidelines.
Responsibilities:
1. Collaborates and consults with Bayhealth physicians in accordance with practice guidelines and nurse-midwifery regulations. 2. Takes part in initial evaluation of all L&D patients, monitors course of labor and delivery, advising on proper health practices, taking tests as appropriate, and reporting any complications to the obstetrician. 3. Prepares patients and their partners for delivery; trains mothers-to-be in exercise, breathing, and relaxation techniques. 4. Attends and reassures patient throughout the course of labor, monitors the fetus condition, administers medications, notifies physician of prolonged labor or complications indicating need for possible surgical intervention. 5. Delivers infant and checks mother and child to ensure that they are responding normally. 6. During postpartum period, visits mother and child to give additional instruction in feeding and care of the newborn. 7. Provides advice on family planning and performs gynecological services. 8. Participates in performance improvement activities. 9. Participates in continuing education activities and obtains CEU’s necessary to maintain state licensure and prescriptive authority. 10. Adapts to changing demands of workplace. 11. Demonstrates the ability to interact with and contribute to professional development of peers and other healthcare providers. 12. Assesses need for referral to other healthcare providers. 13. Participates in labor and delivery coverage. 14. All other duties and special projects as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
Education: Master Degree MIDWIFERY; Graduate of a midwifery program with certificate of nurse-midwifery.
Credential(s): Midwife Practitioner; Certified Midwife; Or equivalent certifying board or registry.
Experience: Required: No experience necessary. New graduates welcome.
Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
Education: Credential(s): Basic Life Support; Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
Experience: Preferred: Three (3) years’ experience as a Midwife in a hospital setting.
