Job Description

Join Wake County Public School System as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, where you'll provide essential support to students with visual impairments, ensuring their independence and success in school and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide itinerant orientation and mobility services for students with visual impairments
  • Adapt classroom instruction to enable students to function socially and academically
  • Assess students to determine orientation and mobility needs
  • Provide skills for safe and efficient travel within environments
  • Keep accurate data on student progress and develop IEP goals
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to support student success

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Three years experience supporting teachers and students with visual impairments
  • North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Visually Impaired (VI)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education
  • Certification from ACVREP
  • Experience teaching students with visual impairments in orientation and mobility
