Unit Details:

• Department: Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) – Float
• Beds: 15 total (7 L&D, 8 Postpartum)
• OR Suites for C-Sections: 1
• Avg Births/Month: ~58
• Acuity/Patient Types: Obstetric & neonate focus including hypertension, GDM; efforts made to avoid deliveries <36 weeks
• Staffing Ratios:
  • 1:1 for Pitocin, magnesium, insulin
  • 1:3 for couplet care
• Drips: Titrating Pitocin, magnesium, insulin required

Required Experience & Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret fetal strips independently
• Strong critical thinking and adaptability
• Must follow quality metrics
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred
• Comfort floating to MedSurg & ER
• Familiar with Philips telemetry and Traceview/PIP EFM systems
• EMR: Meditech

Certifications Required:

• BLS
• Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
• Preferred: ACLS, NRP, STABLE

Additional Unit Info:

• Charge RN on shift (takes assignment)
• Support Staff: CNAs (assist with vitals, transfers, ambulation, paperwork, and monitor desk due to locked unit)
• OB/Neonatologist & Anesthesia: Not in-house 24/7
• RT Equipment: Yes, but RNs only troubleshoot
• No Tele/Monitor Techs – RNs must read own strips
• Scrub Policy: Maroon surgical scrubs provided and required on unit
• Orientation: 3 shifts
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling allowed
