Job Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in protecting, promoting, and optimizing the health and well-being of individuals and families. Through skilled assessment, diagnosis, treatment of human responses, and patient advocacy, the RN ensures the highest standards of care.
The RN is accountable for professional nursing practice in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act , United Health Services policies , ANA Scope and Standards of Practice , Code of Ethics for Nurses , and the Patient Bill of Rights . This role supports a caring and healing environment focused on patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities - Assess, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients.
- Serve as a primary or accountable nurse , based on unit assignments and patient safety needs.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion, disease prevention, and disease management using available resources.
- Administer medications safely and effectively, in accordance with UHS policies and current pharmacological knowledge.
- Promote efficient use of staffing, supplies, and services to ensure productivity and cost-effectiveness.
- Adhere to all professional nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies.
- Actively participate in Nursing Shared Governance , supporting Unit Councils, improvement initiatives, and peer review processes.
- Commit to ongoing professional development, continuing education, and completion of all mandatory training.
- Integrate evidence-based practices and nursing research into clinical care.
- Support new team members and nursing students by fostering a collaborative and educational environment.

- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications - Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current and valid New York State RN License .
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
- 6 months to 3 years of professional nursing experience.
- Up to 3 years of leadership or management experience.
- 5+ years of direct patient care experience (preferred for some roles).
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) .
- Previous experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.
- Professional certification in a nursing specialty.
- Advanced certifications such as ACLS , PALS , or TNCC , as required by the assigned unit.
