Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Evening Shift

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced and dedicated Emergency Room Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our team on the evening shift. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing high-quality care in a fast-paced, busy environment. This position involves working with a diverse patient population, including adults and pediatrics, within a Level 3 Trauma Center.

  • Shift Length: 12 hours, Evening
  • Unit Type: Emergency Care Center (ECC) / Emergency Room (ER)
  • Patient Capacity: 29 bed ED, 4 bed Behavioral Health, 7 bed Fast Track
  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:5, with flexibility based on volume
  • Location: Plattsburgh, NY

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Room setting.
  • Monitor and assess patient conditions, administering medications and treatments as needed.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Manage patients’ care, including those requiring psychiatric evaluation and boarded patients.
  • Perform basic life support and advanced cardiac life support as needed.
  • Utilize electronic medical records system (EPIC) for documentation and patient management.
  • Attend to patients in accordance with established protocols and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year clinical experience required, with at least 1 year in a specialty (ED experience preferred).
  • Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS.
  • Epic Experience: Must have working experience with Epic within the past 2 years.
  • Skills: Ability to manage higher patient ratios and work in a high-volume setting.
  • Licensure: Current NY license or proof of application.

Other Information

  • Orientation: 20-24 hours depending on contract length.
  • Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs; closed-toe shoes.
  • Floating: Not required; Charge experience preferred.
  • Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Yes, must work 2 of the 3 major holidays.

Additional Unit Specific Information

As part of your role, you may be responsible for managing patients of varying acuity levels, including those waiting for admission or transfer. Critical care patients are rapidly moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Please note that the use of cell phones and earbuds is prohibited while on duty.
