The Registered Nurse provides regular professional nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services to hospitalized patients. Caregivers in the Cardiovascular Imaging unit perform Transesophageal Echo (TEE), which involves inserting a probe into the esophagus to obtain closer images of the heart. These caregivers also administer DEFINITY, conduct bubble studies and perform dobutamine stress tests.
Caregivers in this role will enjoy the opportunity to obtain procedural experience without entering an operating room.
A caregiver in this role works 7 a.m. -- 5:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assess patient, complete nursing assessment, document findings in patient records and notify physician of abnormal findings.
Establish a care plan in collaboration with the patient, family and healthcare team.
Coordinate ongoing care. Identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning as appropriate.
Provide telephone triage and call rotations per department needs.
Perform nursing procedures and treatments as directed by physician or LIP in the treatment and management of patient care.
Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care consistent with CCHS policies and procedures.
Assist with specialized patient care equipment as required by the clinical department and medical specialty assigned.
Administer medications and treatments as ordered by a physician or LIP.
Direct, coordinate and participate in the evaluation and supervision of nursing care provided to patients.
Establish patient care priorities and delegate nursing activities according to the patient needs and staff qualifications and capabilities.
Serve as charge nurse when assigned to ensure efficient operations and continuity of care.
Participate in education, research and performance improvement activities. Provide health education to patients and families.
Develop, evaluate, adapt and document education to meet learning needs and abilities of patients and families.
Assist in the preparation of department specific education for patients and colleagues. Cover other nursing roles in the department.
Maintain core competency in nursing (CPR, skills labs).
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) within six months of hire
Minimum of one year of recent RN experience
Proficiency in administering medications, managing airways and providing patient care during procedure
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's of science in nursing
Two years of recent RN experience
