HAI Group is looking for a team-oriented Business Development Consultant to drive sales as part of our Underwriting team. Essential Functions
- Implements territory sales plan and participates in external marketing activities, conferences, tradeshows, industry events, and appointments to identify, attract, and qualify leads and prospects.
- Develops and qualifies new leads that generate submissions to align with financial objectives.
- Moves opportunities forward through proposals, consultative meetings, demonstrations, and follow-up.
- Identifies opportunities and gathers business intelligence to analyze competition and acquire new contacts.
- Builds and maintains relationships with key audiences including finance directors, executive directors, asset managers, human resources directors, housing developers, and insurance agents.
- Demonstrates a commitment to remain current in public and affordable housing, trade publications, blogs and industry seminars to understand and monitor emerging trends.
- Develops new prospects by documenting client history and needs through CRM technology.
- Maintains lead generation and current sales pipeline using CRM
- Develops and presents proposals, presentations and RFP responses.
- Achieves marketing and sales objectives by planning, developing, implementing, and regularly assessing field sales action plans.
- Maintains accurate records of all pricing, sales, and activities and submits required reports.
- Utilizes business intelligence to identify marketing opportunities, demand and competitor market share.
- Collaborates with Underwriting to bring submission to quote.
- Collaborates with Marketing and Communications to develop and lead innovative campaigns to increase industry visibility
- Willingness to participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
Job Requirements
Required:
- 3-5 years’ experience with sales or business development.
- Insurance producers license in commercial property & casualty or willingness to obtain license within 90-days of employment.
- Ability to travel within the United States required (Frequency will vary but may be up to 30%)
- Ability to lift 25 approximately 25 lbs and setup marketing displays independently
- Marketing concepts, positioning, territory management, sales planning, competitive analysis, understanding the customer, product development, client relationships, creative services.
- Familiarity with public and affordable housing industry, real estate management, asset management and housing development, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Solid sales and negotiation skills with the ability to support business development efforts and contribute to team goals.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to engage with agents, insureds, and cross-functional colleagues.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills to explain insurance concepts and create trust with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to support sales and marketing initiatives
- Ability to identify opportunities for growth.
- Experience collaborating with internal teams, such as Account Services, Marketing and Communications, and Underwriting, to support client needs and organizational objectives.
- Understanding of how individual performance contributes to organizational goals, such as client retention, satisfaction metrics, and growth.
- Working knowledge of marketing practices and basic process improvement concepts to support campaigns and improve workflows.
- Customer-focused and service-minded, with a commitment to meeting the needs of agents and insureds.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work and support multiple accounts through various stages of the sales process.

Department Overview
The Underwriting department evaluates the risk of all current or prospective public and affordable housing properties and operations eligible for insurance coverage. The department fully analyzes risk and exposures and then prices the account based upon established underwriting guidelines and state regulations. The underwriting team’s role also includes CAT exposure analysis, coverage evaluation, price negotiation, program profitability, market conditions, reinsurance requirements and policy reviews. The team operates closely with various departments including Claims, Marketing, Risk Control, and across the organization to provide high level services/products to all members.
