Unit Description

This unit and RN role is primarily an inpatient focused role. All patients will either be observation status or inpatient and will be holding in overflow areas. The nurse will be floated to all to care for admitted patients. Unit is located next to Emergency Dept and can hold up to 4 patients from ED (ED Holds). 1 East RN's should be capable of reading EKG. Any MedSurg/Tele/Stepdown RN to care for Hold patients in the ED, Observation patients or Float to any unit. Entire hospital is set up to be Tele.

Unit Description:
Trach Care, bariatrics, nocturnal vents, stroke care 1:5 for SD/PCU; 1:6 floated to acute care. MSD cares for PD patients, CSD cares for stroke patients, SSD cares for surgical patients.
Experience and Requirements:
1E Surge/Overflow - Med Surg/Tele/ Stepdown RN
Care for Hold Patients in the ED, or inpatient units.
All patients will be Observations or inpatient status holding in the ED or on an inpatient unit.
The nurses will float amongst different areas within the facility based on hospital census
Weekend is a requirement
Contract Length: varies
Specialty: Must have a MIN. of 2 years' exp.
Weekend/schedule: 12 hours Sun-Sat, must be available weekends
Holiday: Every other
RTO: no more than 3 days
License: NJ or compact
Certs: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, Stroke CEU's, PCU or Critical care course.
Scrub Color: Navy Blue

Float Requirements
Must be willing to float

Call off: 

  • Client may cancel (call-off) up to one (1) shift per two week period without paying for the cancelled hours.

First day instructions(FDI):

  • Failure to complete the full orientation will result in immediate termination. Once scheduled, candidates do not have the option to reschedule any classes.
  • Candidates will receive an email directly from client the Friday before the Monday start, containing important information regarding the orientation.
  • Instructions for signing on to the Virtual Welcome meeting and the online HealthStream Module from Human Resources will be sent prior to 8:30 AM on Monday.
  • The Monday GEO will be conducted virtually from the candidate's own computer.
  • All assigned HealthStream modules must be completed by Monday. Failure to do so will result in removal from the orientation list.
  • In-person classes are typically held from Tuesday to Thursday in multiple locations. The specific location may not be listed in the original email; candidates are required to use HealthStream to determine the class location on the day of the class.
  • The POCT class is mandatory and will not occur during orientation week.
  • Candidates will receive a unit-based orientation schedule from their manager.
  • Candidates will receive instructions on how to make an appointment to receive their ID badge in person. Photo submissions are not permitted, and obtaining the badge is required during orientation. The badge is necessary for clocking in.
