The Interventional Radiology RN provides specialized nursing care for patients undergoing minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This role involves pre-, intra-, and post-procedure patient care, close collaboration with radiologists, technologists, and anesthesiologists, and ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes throughout all phases of care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients before, during, and after interventional radiology procedures.
• Prepare patients for procedures, including obtaining medical history, verifying consent, starting IV lines, and administering medications or moderate sedation as directed.
• Monitor vital signs, hemodynamic status, and patient comfort throughout procedures.
• Assist interventional radiologists during procedures such as angiograms, biopsies, drain placements, embolizations, ablations, and central line insertions.
• Administer contrast media, sedation, and emergency medications safely and per protocol.
• Provide post-procedure care including monitoring recovery, assessing for complications, and providing discharge education.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Coordinate patient flow, scheduling, and communication among multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain a sterile field and adhere strictly to infection control and radiation safety protocols.
• Respond quickly to emergencies, including performing basic and advanced life support as required.
• Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and post-care instructions.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and staff training within the IR department.

Qualifications:

• Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience; previous IR, PACU, Critical Care, or Cath Lab experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of sterile technique, moderate sedation, and patient monitoring.

• Excellent critical thinking, communication, and team collaboration skills.
