Job Description

Job Title: Clinical Staff Pharmacist
Job Type: Contract Role

Job Summary:

The Clinical Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, effective, and timely provision of medication therapy through drug utilization review and collaboration with healthcare professionals. This role also involves directing pharmacy technicians, learners, and support staff in medication preparation and distribution.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Interpret medication orders to ensure appropriate therapy based on diagnosis, age, weight, allergies, and current medications.
  • Compound and dispense prescribed medications in compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Identify, prevent, evaluate, and report Adverse Drug Events (ADEs).
  • Review drug interactions and contraindications; make clinical recommendations to prescribers.
  • Maintain patient medication profiles and develop care plans.
  • Counsel patients on proper medication use, potential side effects, and storage.
  • Provide accurate drug information to healthcare staff.
  • Recommend and administer vaccines as needed.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and internal audits.
  • Supervise pharmacy support personnel and enforce standard operating procedures.
  • Train and mentor pharmacy staff and learners.
  • Act as preceptor or advisor to pharmacy interns and students.
  • Stay current with continuing education requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with policies related to drug security, the 340B program, and hazardous medication disposal.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas – must be licensed at time of hire
  • Immunization Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Completion of PGY1 or PGY2 residency

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Effective problem-solving, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced or high-pressure environments
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform duties requiring standing, bending, and reaching
  • Visual acuity for close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception

Working Conditions:

  • Standard pharmacy setting
  • May involve weekend shifts, on-call duty, emergency response, or travel to off-site locations
  • Exposure to occupational hazards such as communicable diseases, hazardous medications, and challenging patient behaviors
