As a vital part of the food supply chain, our delivery drivers ensure timely arrival of products to customers in excellent condition while building strong relationships. The Driver Trainee will embark on an entry-level driving training journey, gaining hands-on experience in hauling freight and operating tractor trailers under the guidance of experienced driver trainers. You will interact professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers, addressing inquiries accurately and timely, while functioning as a collaborative team member within the organization.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Successfully complete the Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required.Assist and ride with driver trainers for deliveries as needed.Perform all mandated safety checks (e.g., pre/post-trip), inspecting tractor/truck and trailer in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.Report any safety issues or required repairs promptly.Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safety policies.Conduct inspections of trailers to confirm secure and properly loaded freight.Check deliveries against customer invoices, ensuring accurate and legible completion of related paperwork.Operate the tractor and connect to preloaded trailers as necessary.Follow delivery routes as scheduled and deliver customer orders accordingly.Unload products at customer locations and transport items to designated storage areas.Carry out damage control checks and communicate with supervisors regarding any discrepancies according to company policy.Verify receipt of items with customers and obtain proper signatures.Collect payment (cash or checks) when required.Handle and secure customer returns onto the trailer.Unload damaged goods and returns, completing necessary paperwork.Maintain cleanliness in the tractor and loading dock area, ensuring trailers are clear and tidy.Complete daily logs of hours of service in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.Perform other related duties as assigned.Qualifications:
For Internal Candidates: 1 year of service in good standing with the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, able to obtain CDL Permit and DOT Health Card.0-12 months of CDL A Commercial Driving experience.High school diploma/GED or equivalent.Valid CDL A.Must meet all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).Must be at least 21 years old.Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check.Pass the road test.Have a valid current DOT Health Card or be able to secure one.Ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment for moving or stacking products of varying size and weight, generally ranging from 10-35 pounds and up to 60-90 pounds depending on the location.Company Description:Performance Foodservice, a division of PFG, maintains strong relationships with a variety of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries.
