Job Description

Are you motivated by inventing new materials and predicting material failure in extreme environments? Are you excited by applying your skills as a problem solver, innovator, and engineer to make meaningful contributions in aerospace, defense, and national security applications? Do you love working on teams to apply your experimental and analytical skills to accelerate material development for a variety of applications? Our team is seeking an innovative corrosion research scientist to help advance performance evaluation and invention of new materials. As a member of our team, you will apply your strong background in engineering, laboratory testing, and data analysis to advance the understanding of corrosion phenomena prevalent in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials in austere applications. Joining our scientific team means you will work alongside experts in materials science, metallurgy, engineering and performance modeling to uncover structure property relationships in a wide range of pioneering materials and sophisticated hardware systems. The primary objective of this role is to generate technological solutions for rapid materials performance evaluation, working towards discovery of novel corrosion resistant alloys and advancement of emerging additively manufactured alloys. As a Corrosion Research Scientist... Your primary responsibility will be to plan and conduct experimental research focused on addressing the corrosion challenges of novel metallic alloys. You will support the development of new testing and evaluation approaches to accelerate the evaluation of localized corrosion (e.g., You will have opportunity to pursue your own scientific interests, grow your influence and career as an engineer/scientist, and disseminate your scientific results via journal articles, conference presentations, and proposals for new research. You will lead project execution and prepare progress reports on project scope, milestones, and future initiatives to academic, and government stakeholders. Possess a MS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field. Have 2+ years technical experience in hands on experimental corrosion research and electrochemical characterization of alloys. Are comfortable working in a laboratory environment, performing data collection and troubleshooting. scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis). Have experience in communicating scientific technical material to a range of audiences and working effectively in a team environment. Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Possess a PhD in Material Science, Chemical engineering, or related field. Have 4 years technical experience in hands on experimental corrosion research and electrochemical characterization of alloys. Can demonstrate knowledge of computational and/or analytical corrosion modeling and performance prediction. Possess leadership skills coordinating multiple teams and projects.
