Medical Support Assistant (1-Year Contract) – Federal Facility
Location: Taos/Picuris Health Center
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Start Date: August/September (dependent on background clearance)

Job Overview:
DT-Trak is seeking dedicated Medical Support Assistants to join our team at the Taos Picuris Service Unit, a federal facility providing essential healthcare services. In this role, you’ll perform a mix of direct patient support and administrative duties to ensure smooth daily operations and exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative & Patient Support
- Answer incoming calls professionally and assist with patient inquiries
- Deliver excellent internal and external customer service
- Register patients, verify insurance, and update demographic information
- Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments
- Collect third-party health insurance cards and verify coverage (Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, etc.)
- Scan and upload administrative documents and health forms into the EHR
- Support front desk operations for medical, dental, pharmacy, and laboratory departments
Referral & Claims Management
- Process and track patient referrals and generate purchase orders or denial letters
- Submit weekly and monthly reports, including Pended Claims, Funds Status, and Open Documents
- Coordinate with outside facilities for referral follow-ups
Records & Information Management
- Use RPMS, EHR, PMAS, Vista Imaging, and other systems to manage patient records
- Handle release of information requests in compliance with HIPAA and other federal laws
- Review, scan, and archive medical records accurately
- Assist with data auditing and reporting tasks
Additional Duties
- Participate in community events supporting local tribal organizations
- Complete all onboarding and training requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certification in medical administration a plus
- Experience in a medical office or healthcare administration setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Organized, detail-oriented, and tech-savvy (familiarity with RPMS/EHR systems a plus)
- Proficient in MS Office and patient management software
Important Details:
- Travel time to/from the facility is not billable
- Federal holidays and clinic closures may impact scheduling
- Work schedule is determined in coordination with program supervisor
