Unit Overview
- Unit Type : Observation/Admission Unit
- Floor : Same as Emergency Department
- Number of Beds : 15
- Patient Population : Similar to Med-Surg
- Common Diagnoses :
- Cardiac rule-out
- Low HEART score
- Abdominal pain
- Pneumonia, COPD, AKI
- Radiation patients
- Post-op: Lap chole, appy (low-level surgical)
- Certifications Required :
- BLS (required)
- ACLS (preferred)
Staffing & Ratios
- Nurse-Patient Ratios :
- Day Shift : 1:5–6
- Night Shift : 1:6–7
- Support Staff :
- PCA : 2 per shift
- Charge Nurse : Shared with ED
- Midlevel Coverage : 24/7 assigned to RDU
- Monitor Techs : Centralized monitoring available; RNs must read telemetry
Scheduling
- Shift Times : 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM / 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekend Requirement : 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement : Work 2 out of 5 major holidays (includes eves)
- Floating Requirement : May float to Med-Surg Towers
