Job Description

Join Ombudsman Educational Services as a Special Education Teacher and make a meaningful impact on the lives of students. You will create and implement educational plans tailored to students' needs, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and implement the instructional process for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Provide a collaborative environment for students, parents, and staff
  • Establish a positive classroom climate focusing on social development and group responsibility
  • Implement school-wide and classroom PBIS programs
  • Record student progress and maintain student files
  • Provide direct instruction and collaborate with team members
  • Modify curriculum and assist with differentiated instruction
  • Act as case manager for special education students as required
  • Prepare lesson plans and materials for assigned class
  • Maintain the physical center and ensure a positive learning environment
  • Keep up to date with research-based practices and developments in subject area
  • Respond constructively to feedback

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study
  • Meet all state teaching license and/or certification requirements
  • Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a special education credential
  • Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL professional educators license (PEL)
  • Prior experience in curriculum development, differentiation, and instruction in a classroom setting
  • Prior experience in alternative and/or special educational services for at-risk students
  • Highly skilled in working with individuals with severe learning and emotional behavioral disorders
  • Prior experience with individualized education programs (IEPs)
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability
  • Knowledge of relevant technology including instructional technology and Microsoft Office Suite
