Join our dedicated team as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, where you'll provide specialized instruction and support to help students thrive academically and socially. Your expertise will empower students with visual impairments to access the general curriculum and develop independence.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, including Braille, assistive technology, and compensatory skills
Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet individual student needs
Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments
Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and families to support inclusion and academic progress
Participate in IEP meetings and ensure compliance with IDEA
Train students in the use of low vision devices and accessible educational tools
Support transition planning for older students
Maintain accurate records and document student progress
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field
State certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (or ability to obtain) in PA
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in Braille (preferred: UEB Certification)
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Experience working with students across a range of visual abilities and educational settings
