FMC Corporation is a leading agricultural sciences company. FMC Discovery has an immediate opening for an enthusiastic, creative, and talented computational chemist to join the Discovery Chemistry group at Stine Research Center in Newark, DE. The Discovery Chemistry team designs and synthesizes new high-performance crop protection molecules that may lead to new commercial products.
D. level scientist with a strong background in computational chemistry and scientific data analysis. Candidates must demonstrate an expert understanding of scientific data analysis and modeling and be able to apply this knowledge toward identification of trends in screening data and of novel synthetic targets. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, but also collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, including discovery chemists, biologists, and process chemists.
D. in Chemistry, Information Science, or a related discipline is required. Knowledge of organic chemistry is necessary. Further post-doctoral or industrial work experience is desirable.
- 5 years of experience in chemical industry or related field
Knowledge of chemical properties with experience in the computational evaluation and manipulation organic small molecules
- Scientific programming experience (python/R preferred)
- Experience with scientific visualization software such as StarDrop, Spotfire, Shiny, or Tableau
- Experience with scientific workflow software such as Jupyter, Pipeline Pilot, or KNIME
- Experience working in a Linux environment and working with IT teams for software deployment
Linux administration and command-line operations. Experience with cloud-based systems.
- Development, evaluation, and application of machine learning/artificial intelligence models.
- Experience with molecular modeling software such as Schrodinger suite, Discovery Studio, or MOE, including small molecule, target-based/docking, or quantum-chemistry methods.
Collaborate with chemistry and biology teams to identify and optimize compounds of interest.
- Evaluate structure-activity relationships (SARs) of analogs as found through in vitro and in vivo studies.
- Utilize computational tools for hit identification, virtual screening, and molecular modeling.
- Apply knowledge of computational chemistry to guide compound design and optimization.
- Evaluate external opportunities and collaborate with external scientists.
- Project Management:
- Contribute to project planning discussions and project team meetings.
- Data Analysis and Modeling:
- Curate, analyze, visualize, and model scientific data from the individual project to corporate portfolio scale.
- Collaborate with scientists in other disciplines and train them in methodologies for end users.
- Scientific computing and programming:
- Develop and code workflows to manipulate scientific data.
- Develop information dashboards for scientific team use.
- Work with R&D IT to maintain scientific hardware and software securely and productively.
- Health, Safety, and Compliance:
- Maintain the highest standards of Environmental, Health, and Safety.
- Maintain compliance with Legal and Information Security requirements.
