Requirements include:
High school diploma or equivalent, prior experience in healthcare field preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology highly desired. Valid EMT certification or Vermont Nursing Assistant License required.
Job duties:
Reviews and assembles physician orders and takes appropriate action to comply with orders including, but not limited to, data entering information, retrieving missing or needed documentation, placing telephone calls, etc
Performs a variety of unit organizational functions, including, but not limited to, files, phone lists, patient brochures, daily reports, physician orders, etc. Keeps unit nursing station neat and tidy throughout the shift.
Acts as unit receptionist including, but not limited to answering telephone calls, greeting walk-in customers, paging providers, transferring calls, etc.
Accurately enters data into order-entry module of Meditech in a timely manner. Retrieves patient information from PCI as requested.
Monitors the use of supplies on assigned unit. Takes appropriate action to address needed supplies, including, but not limited to, restocking and/or (re)ordering stock, communicating PAR stock needs to materials management, notifying appropriate personnel of inventory variances, etc.
Sorts and delivers in-coming and out-going mail and ensures that mail is delivered to the appropriate person/office in a timely manner.
Coordinates (and/or carries out/assists in the) transfer of patients (including helicopter transfers) to various in-house and external care units in accordance with department policies and procedures. Takes appropriate action to ensure that all needed ancillary services are notified in support of transfer.
In emergency situations, takes action to notify appropriate resources to ensure safe and timely patient treatment as directed.
Under the supervision of an RN, performs nursing interventions and procedures as directed to ensure the safe effective quality of care for patients in accordance with Vermont State EMS District 12, Board of Nursing and SVMC policies and regulations.

Reports to RN on a variety of aspects of patient and family information including, but not limited to identified problems, care provided and patients responses to meet patient and family needs and ensure overall quality of care delivered, in accordance with Vermont State EMS District 12, Board of Nursing and SVMC policies and regulations.
Advocates for patient care issues to ensure that overall quality and type of care is sensitive to each specific patient/familys needs.
Assists nursing staff in receiving patients including, but not limited to, preparing rooms, collecting required patient data, assembling charts, assembling needed equipment, etc. in a timely manner to facilitate admission.
Assists providers/nurses in a wide variety of medical treatments as requested.
