Mechanical Engineer - Gun / Turrent Drive & Weapon Systems Integration
Sterling Heights, MI
Contract Position
$59.28-$64.28/Hour
Join a team dedicated to designing and producing armored combat and support vehicles. As a prime mover in ground force capabilities, this firm provides innovative solutions that ensure the safety and effectiveness of military personnel worldwide, focusing on durability, mobility, and performance.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, integration, and release of system and subsystem assemblies and components, with a focus on gun/turret drives, racerings, weapon systems integration, and ammunition handling mechanisms.
- Develop articulating, locking, and sliding hardware to meet Human Factors requirements.
- Create and support CAD models, installation layouts, and detailed drawings in collaboration with Design Services.
- Provide hands-on support during procurement, prototype build, and vehicle integration phases to resolve engineering issues.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and perform tolerance stack-ups; working knowledge of GD&T is preferred.
- Support failure analysis and recommend corrective action solutions.
- Contribute to concurrent engineering reviews, technical documentation, and report generation.
- Familiarity with FEA tools (e.g., ANSA, Nastran, LS-DYNA) is a plus.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in a professional mechanical engineering role.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling tools for design and concept generation.
- Experience conducting preliminary design and analysis based on technical requirements.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work in an Integrated Product Team environment and communicate across functional departments.
- Willingness to work in office, shop, lab, or field environments.
- Must be able to work overtime and travel as required.
