Job Description

As the Lead Veterinarian for the ASPCA’s Community Medicine team, you will support a dedicated group of veterinarians in providing high-quality care to underserved communities. This role combines leadership with hands-on veterinary practice, allowing you to make a significant impact on animal welfare while fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and monitor medicine and surgery at the CVC according to standard operating procedures
  • Train veterinarians in HQHVSN techniques and medical protocols
  • Support a positive work culture through regular feedback and performance evaluations
  • Perform pre-surgery examinations and surgical procedures
  • Provide compassionate preventive and basic care to patients
  • Schedule staff veterinarians for optimal coverage
  • Participate in veterinary medicine rounds and meetings

Required Qualifications

  • Current California State Veterinary License
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited college
  • Minimum one year of experience in high quality, high volume spay/neuter
  • Minimum three years veterinary experience in small animal medicine and surgery
  • Demonstrate true leadership abilities in challenging situations
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced clinic environment
  • Excellent work attendance record
  • Fear Free® Shelter certification required within 60 days of hire

  • Previous people management experience
