Job Description

Join Grainger as a Maintenance Mechanic, where you will be the expert in maintaining automated material handling systems and ensuring maximum uptime. In this role, you will troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues, assist with infrastructure upgrades, and provide technical expertise for daily operations in a dynamic distribution center environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the primary responder for all complex system issues involving automated material handling
  • Assist with infrastructure upgrades and modifications/repairs to assets
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems
  • Perform audits and quality checks on equipment and systems
  • Provide diagnosis analyses on building equipment
  • Troubleshoot and report on material handling system performance

Required Qualifications

  • Technical degree or Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of building and equipment maintenance experience
  • Two years maintaining automated material handling systems
  • Complete technical training in electronic controls, power distribution and PLC troubleshooting
  • Experience with electrical test equipment, hand tools, power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings and schematics
  • Understanding of codes such as NEC, BOCA, UBC, MSDS, and OSHA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical skills to become subject matter expert for automated material handling systems
  • Experience with PLC programming changes (Siemens, Allen Bradley)
  • Understanding of power distribution and control circuits
  • Experience with I/O device networks such as ProfiBus, ASiBus
  • Experience with thermal imaging equipment to detect early failures
  • Experience with AC drives (set-up, programming, faults)
