L&D/PP/MB Unit Overview – Oregon License Requirement • Oregon RN License Required • OR 90-Day Emergency License Eligible Unit Composition • L&D Beds: 5 (LDRPs) • Postpartum Beds: 3 (in addition to 5 LDRPs) • OR Suites: 1 within unit (staffed by Main OR; unit RNs do not scrub/circulate) • Triage Beds: 1 • Annual Deliveries: Approx. 340 (30–35 per month) Staffing & Ratios • AWHONN Guidelines: Followed • Minimum RN Staffing: 2 RNs per shift (frequently 3); all nurses expected to work independently across L&D, postpartum, routine and intermediate nursery • Support Staff: CNA II/unit secretary • Charge Nurse: Yes • House Supervisor: Yes Certifications Required • BLS • NRP Patient Population • Common Diagnoses: Low to moderate risk OB, laboring patients, postpartum mothers, well and intermediate nursery newborns • High-Risk Patients: Stabilized and transferred when necessary • OB/Neonatologist: On call 24/7 (OBs typically present with labor Required Skills • Strong, independent skills across Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Routine Nursery, and Intermediate Nursery • Ability to titrate Pitocin (induction/augmentation), Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate • Flexibility with fluctuating census and assignments Monitoring & Equipment • EFM System: Centricity Perinatal • Fetal Monitoring: Central • Telemetry: Maternal cardiac monitoring read by ICU • Ventilation/RT Support: Bubble CPAP, vent stabilization for transfer only • Monitor Techs: No — RNs read fetal strips Schedule Details • Shift Length: 12 hours (7a–7p or 7p–7a) • Scheduling: Block scheduling; trades allowed • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend • Holiday Requirement: 1 major, 1 minor (if applicable) • Call/Standby: To be discussed • Floating: Expected – provide “helping hands” to other units
