Engage students in active music-making through singing, movement, and instrument instruction while collaborating with a dedicated team to enhance musical talent in economically disadvantaged communities.
Key Responsibilities
Implement network-provided curricula and activities to meet music-specific academic standards
Teach all music-based content including singing, dance and movement, and elementary instrumental music
Develop music literacy lesson components
Collaborate with Enrichment teachers and Director of Operations for performances
Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards
Support school instructional and cultural needs
Participate in collaborative curriculum development and school-wide functions
Develop strong classroom management skills
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music in Music, Music Education or Performance
Experience teaching general and vocal music to elementary-aged children
Ability to manage and direct large groups of students
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Belief in and alignment with Uncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the Kodaly and Orff approaches
Piano and vocal proficiency, knowledge of recorder, basic guitar
Experience performing and/or teaching music
Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting
Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom
