A Day in the Life

The Service Software Engineer is a technical individual contributor role within the Global Robotics Service Support (GRSS) team. This role is responsible for software tool and process development, as well as product technical troubleshooting of software-related field escalations. The primary support areas include design transfer of R&D software changes to field systems and creating or maintaining software troubleshooting and repair tools.

This role focuses on developing and continuously improving diagnostic software solutions for the Hugo Robotics Assisted Surgery (RAS) System and integrating various software changes into clinical and demo systems. It involves active participation in complex software projects, including cybersecurity, network connectivity, design for serviceability, hardware compatibility, and new surgical instruments or features.

This position requires communication with diverse technical and non-technical teams such as service and repair, engineering, clinical training, project management, and product marketing. It includes working closely with software developers, electrical engineers, integration engineers, reliability engineers, quality engineers, and field service engineers on design for serviceability and software improvements for the RAS System. Domestic and international travel opportunities are available.

You Will:

  • Perform technical problem-solving and develop solutions related to interconnected sub-components of the Hugo RAS and service software tools, including configuring systems, diagnosing faults, resolving issues remotely or in-person, and developing software tools.
  • Act as a liaison between R&D and field roles to analyze root causes and implement corrective actions for software anomalies.
  • Support the development of troubleshooting and repair software tools and procedures, including reviewing software designs and documentation.
  • Assist in the transfer of software, OS, and firmware updates to the Hugo fleet.
  • Manage complex software upgrade and deployment processes across the fleet.
  • Test and evaluate new technologies aimed at serviceability improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Travel internationally as needed (20-30%).

Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with no experience required.

Nice to Have:

  • Understanding of cyber-physical systems, firmware, operating systems, networking, sensors, and actuators.
  • Experience with Linux (Bash), Windows (CMD/Powershell), shell scripting, C/C++, Python.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, networking (OSI model), and cybersecurity.
  • Experience with SQL/SQLite, Node.js, Simulink, data analytics, and visualization tools like Tableau or PowerBI.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical devices, troubleshooting, and medical devices.
  • Experience in robotics or motion control, and strong organizational skills.

Salary ranges in the U.S. (excluding PR): $84,000 - $126,000, with eligibility for incentives. Benefits vary for full-time employees working 20+ hours/week.
