Job Description Summary:
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating laboratory personnel, and ensuring quality patient care in the area of specialty. Responsible for the training of staff and students and the assignments of personnel. Collects departmental QC/QA data. Ensures that performance, customer service, and productivity standards are met or exceeded.Responsibilities And Duties:
1. Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment. 2. Demonstrates competence in providing care and services to patients based on the patients age specific and/or functional needs. 3. All employees shall abide by the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act HIPA a regulations, which help protect the privacy, security, & confidentiality of patient health information. 4. Responsible for ensuring that person al performance reflects the Mission, Vision and Service Pride Standards. 5. Coordinates daily activities and personnel within the specialized department. 6. Performs as a laboratory technologist within the specialty area. Maintains the required knowledge 7. and skills necessary to perform the procedures in the specialty area. 8. Assigns duties to ensure provision of high quality service and timely completion of procedures. 9. Actively supports the Lab Manager in the attainment of strategic departmental goals and objectives. Plays an active role in improving the quality of service provided and reducing the overall cost of services. 10. Orients new staff, assists in evaluations, and interviews prospective staff as requested by the Manager. 1 1. Provides training for lab students. 12. Provides input into the selection of capital equipment and budgetary issues. 13. Performs QC and QA activities within the area. 14. Reviews and updates existing policies and procedures, writes new policies as needed, and informs staff of policy changes. 15. Demonstrates knowledge of all regulations peculiar to the area, i.e., , CLIA, CAP, AABB, JCAHO, FDA, OSHA, and assures compliance. 16. Assures that all personnel assigned to their specific area have completed competency testing applicable to the duties being performed. 17. Represents the Department on various Hospital committees, Lab Operations Teams, and at Pathology QA meetings. 18. Reviews survey results and takes corrective action on exceptions 19. Integrates specialty area with other areas of the laboratory to promote more efficient operation. 20. Meets competency standards as required by the Laboratory on a yearly basis. 2 1. Assists with the preparation of a variety of reports, analyses, and summaries as requested by the Manager. 22. Meets continuing education requirements. 23. Performs other duties as assigned some of which may be essential to the position.Minimum Qualifications:

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE
MLT (ASCP), MT,(ASCP) or equivalent except in Blood Bank which requires MT ASCP or equivalent. 5 years as a technician/technologist in a hospital laboratory with managerial Experience . Meets CLIA requirements for general supervision for laboratories performing high complexity testing. Excellent skills in verbal and written communication and managerial decision.
