Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

• Location: Burlington, VT 05401 (Vermont nursing jobs)
• Healthcare Setting: Cardiac Progressive Care Stepdown Unit (Miller 3 - PCU)
• Assignment Length: 16 weeks (potential extension up to 32 weeks)
• Start Date: November 17, 2025
• Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts (days/nights); every weekend required (at least one shift)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Holiday Requirement: Work 2 out of 4 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year's Day)
• Orientation: Bi-weekly on Mondays
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2100–$2250

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (required for Vermont healthcare jobs)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year in a cardiac stepdown or progressive care unit (PCU)
• Recent experience in a large Level 1 Trauma Center (within the last year)
• Experience caring for post-op Day 1 open/closed heart (CABG) patients
• Cardiothoracic and vascular nursing experience required
• Strong cardiac nursing background required
• Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years (required and nonnegotiable)
• Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (required prior to start); PCCN preferred
• Ability to float to similar units as needed
• Reliable personal or rental vehicle required (public transportation not accessible)
• Vehicles must have all-season or snow tires November–April

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to cardiac stepdown and progressive care patients, including those recovering from open/closed heart surgery
• Monitor, assess, and document patients with complex cardiac and vascular conditions
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Utilize Epic EMR for accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Float to similar progressive care or cardiac units as needed
• Participate in bi-weekly orientation and ongoing professional development
• Maintain compliance with all hospital policies and healthcare regulations
