Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to neonatal patients in accordance with the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics. The RN integrates knowledge from biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for infants and families. Care delivery is guided by the TCH Model of Care, emphasizing partnership, family-centered care, and cultural competence.
Unit Description – Level III NICU
- A new 15-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Level III) caring for infants from 28 weeks gestation to term requiring advanced support.
- Patient population includes those with conditions such as:
- Respiratory distress or ventilatory support needs
- Feeding difficulties
- Neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome
- Glucose instability
- Infectious conditions requiring antibiotic therapy
- NICU RNs attend all high-risk deliveries and assist with initial newborn stabilization and assessment.
- Nursing practice emphasizes family-centered care , skin-to-skin contact , breastfeeding support , and safe sleep education .
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessments and ongoing evaluations of neonatal patients.
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Monitor vital signs, administer medications, and manage advanced equipment (e.g., ventilators, IV pumps).
- Provide education and emotional support to families and caregivers.
- Attend and assist in high-risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitation as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Adhere to safety protocols, infection prevention standards, and ethical nursing practices.
- Participate in continuing education and demonstrate commitment to professional growth.
- Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Diploma in Nursing (minimum)
- Licensure: Current Ohio RN License or Compact License
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing ( BSN )
- Experience: Prior NICU or neonatal care experience (preferred but not required)
