Job Summary
The Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive maternal and newborn care in a Level 1 Women’s Services unit. This includes Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, and OB Triage. Nurses will also attend C-sections as the baby nurse (not circulating). The role requires strong clinical skills, the ability to manage a broad scope of patient needs, and flexibility to float to MedSurg when required.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to patients across L&D, Postpartum, Nursery, and OB Triage
  • Attend cesarean sections as baby nurse
  • Perform non-stress tests, newborn hearing screens, and routine care for well mothers and newborns
  • Administer and titrate drips including Oxytocin and Magnesium Sulfate
  • Interpret fetal monitoring strips (Centricity EFM system)
  • Collaborate with physicians, CRNAs, MedSurg staff, and other team members
  • Float to MedSurg when census in Women’s Services is low (tasking support such as answering call lights, phones, and assisting as needed)
  • Maintain accurate documentation in Epic
  • Deliver safe, patient-centered care following AWHONN guidelines

Requirements

  • Active RN license
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in L&D, Postpartum, Nursery, and OB Triage (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Preferred: MedSurg experience and willingness to float
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, STABLE
  • Ability to titrate Oxytocin and Magnesium drips
  • Strong skills in maternal, newborn, and couplet care

Shifts & Scheduling

  • 12-hour shifts (7a–7p, 7p–7a)
  • Grouped scheduling whenever possible; traveler preferences usually accommodated
  • Weekend requirement: Minimum 5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
  • Holiday requirement: Yes, based on unit needs
  • No call or standby requirement

Orientation

  • 2 days of floor orientation plus POCT and Epic training

Dress Code

  • No specific scrub color required; must be clean and professional. Hospital scrubs available for shift use.
