Job Description

Join the Wake County Public School System as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, providing essential services to students with visual impairments, ensuring their safe and independent travel in school and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide itinerant orientation and mobility services for students with visual impairments
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents, and community members
  • Perform assessments of students to determine orientation and mobility needs
  • Provide instructional resources and materials related to students' needs
  • Keep accurate data on student progress and develop IEP goals

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Three years experience supporting teachers and students with visual impairments
  • North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Visually Impaired (VI)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education
  • Certification from Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP)
  • Experience teaching students with visual impairments in orientation and mobility
