Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state)
• BLS Certification (required prior to first shift)
• ACLS Certification (required prior to first shift)
• Minimum two (2) years of bedside clinical experience in Med/Surg or acute care
• Strong communication, teamwork, and clinical support skills

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for all patients within 8 hours of admission
• Develop individualized care plans with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses
• Participate in patient rehabilitation programs and deliver direct patient care using the nursing process
• Initiate discharge planning and provide patient education from admission
• Communicate changes in patient status to care team members for continuity and safety
• Supervise and guide Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and orientees
• Maintain a safe clinical environment by following hospital safety policies and procedures
• Contribute to unit teamwork and participate in team-building activities
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities as needed after orientation
• Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education
