Job Description

As a Patient Access Representative Associate at Optum, you'll play a vital role in improving patient health outcomes by assisting with registration, insurance verification, and patient support. Join a diverse team dedicated to advancing health equity and making a positive impact in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients in person
  • Collect demographic and insurance information
  • Check in and interview patients to complete appropriate paperwork
  • Direct patients to their appointment or procedure
  • Assist in scheduling add-on appointments
  • Document issues and resolutions in electronic medical records
  • Resolve claim issues or registration errors
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits information
  • Explain cost information to patients as needed
  • Collect co-pays or deductibles and respond to questions
  • Screen and approve patients for financial assistance programs
  • Assist patients with application processes for financial assistance
  • Provide technical or functional direction for employees
  • Assist patients in completing request for information forms
  • Obtain signatures from patients as needed
  • Gather medical record information from departments
  • Provide customer service for inbound and outbound calls
  • Mentor other staff as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ months of customer service experience in healthcare, retail, food service, bank/office settings, call center, or similar
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work standard daytime hours, Monday - Friday for the first 3 weeks after hire
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday starting between 6:00am – 9:00am
  • Ability to work every other weekend
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Revenue Cycle experience
  • General office experience
  • Epic experience
