FT - 4x9s // 36 hrs/wk - Mon-Fri.
1 day OC/week Mon-Thurs, 3 OC weekends/4-6wks for first contract (Fri-Mon)

ACLS, BLS, and PALS required (all through AHA/RQI) and STROKE. Float required to units at SSMH/GGH

Complete Description:
We need OR RNs that Can circulate the below service lines:

Orthopedics– Total joints, ortho trauma and sports medicine (shoulder/knee arthroscopies), upper extremity procedures, some endoscopic, some open (hands, fingers, nerve repairs, etc.)
General Surgery, laparoscopic and open
Urology, including use of a litho laser
ENT:* pediatric patients** PE Tubes, T&As, Septoplasties, FESS with and without navigation
GI: Colonoscopies, EGDs, Dilatation
Spine: ACDF, Lumbar Fusions, discectomies, Kyphoplasties, posterior Cervical fusions
Ophthalmology: Cataracts with use of microscope and phaco machine
Podiatry: similar to sports medicine, some open many endoscopic procedures

We do not currently do OBGYN, GYN, Vascular, Cardio thoracic, organ transplant

The best candidates have worked at small community hospital settings, with call experience, and they could potentially be called in for any of the above service lines and on call they are the only OR RN on site, unlike other areas clinical leads while helpful for organizational processes, are unfamiliar with the operating room nurse skill set.

GI experience for an OR RN is a perk not requirement. And Ophthalmology experience is usually one of which we do not find as most eye surgeons have designated "eye teams”, because we do fairly basic procedures at this time in ophthalmology we can cross train fairly easily. To have an OR RN up inrunning with 3 days of orientation, they truly need to have some experience in the rest The equipment used in each service line is pretty unique to each service line.They do not need to be and expert in all, but some familiarity is a must

The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The OR RN develops specialized skill in the area of patient admitted for medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The Endo RN is accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The OR Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment.
-Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care.
-Assesses patient / family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness (being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do), and analyzing data or information obtained through direct observation/assessment, technology, or health team communication. Creates a developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the health problems identified. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors the patient's progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition/reprioritization of needs.
-Promotes, advocates for and protects the health, safety and rights of the patient. Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome.
Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice. Understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
-Motivates the patient/family by teaching them what is needed to continue care/healing at home. Assesses the patient/family learning styles and structures the sessions to maximize understanding. Seeks "teachable” moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information. Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self care process. Provides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge. Documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education.
-Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery. Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial. Takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill. Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
-Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patient/family.
-Seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present in the moment of interaction, listening, communicating, engaging, and anticipating the patient/family needs. -Demonstrates skill in application of interventions including medication administration.
Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated. Required tasks involve a potential contact with blood, body fluids, and tissues.
