Job Description

Join Optum as an Emergency Department Patient Access Representative, where you'll provide vital patient-oriented services in a fast-paced clinical environment. Your role will involve welcoming patients, managing registrations, and ensuring smooth communication about their care and finances, all while contributing to improved health outcomes in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicates directly with patients and/or families to complete the registration process
  • Utilizes computer systems to enter or verify patient data in real time
  • Gathers necessary clinical information and processes referrals and pre-authorizations
  • Verifies insurance coverage and creates price estimates
  • Collects patient co-pays and discusses financial obligations
  • Identifies outstanding balances from previous visits and collects any due amounts
  • Confirms and creates scheduled appointments for patient services
  • Responds to patient inquiries with compassion and respect
  • Generates and analyzes patient data reports

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years of experience in a hospital, office setting, customer service setting, or phone support role
  • Ability to work onsite in the Emergency Department
  • Ability to work Wednesday - Saturday 7:00AM - 5:30PM
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience in a Hospital Patient Registration Department, Physician office or any medical setting
  • Experience in insurance reimbursement and financial verification
  • Experience in requesting and processing financial payments
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of insurance policies and procedures
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial payments
